Monterrey, Mexico native and Texas based visual artist, Magdalena Guajardo determinedly situates herself into an art historical canon dominated by the male gaze. Guajardo’s work is always influenced by major players in universal art history including Bosch, Titian, Tiepolo, Fortuny, Klimt, and Freud among others. With her paintings, the artist depicts contemporary stories of female figures and their path to survival incorporating a visual rhetoric created by wide brushstrokes and a bold pallet.
